Dylan O’Keeffe has made valuable gains during his second day behind the wheel of the NED Whisky Mustang at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, improving his fastest lap time of the event by an entire second.
O’Keeffe spent this morning’s fourth practice session (dedicated to co-drivers) in the car, recording a best time of 2:06.5 (19th in the session) even though he was on used tyres for the duration of the session. Primary driver Andre Heimgartner took control of the car for the rest of the day’s proceedings.
“I was concentrating on punching out consistent times over a stint and I was able to improve my overall pace from yesterday,” O’Keeffe said.
“I was on used tyres during my session, and the team were happy with the balance we were able to find on old tyres.”
Heimgartner qualified the NED Whisky Mustang 14th for Sunday’s Bathurst 1000.
“It would have been nice to have been in the Shootout, but things didn’t quite go our way in the qualifying session,” O’Keeffe said.
“The good news is that in tomorrow’s last two practice sessions, we can concentrate totally on our race setup for Sunday. The car is easy to drive and I think we’ll have a strong package.” The final two practice sessions will be held at 9:10 (co-drivers only) and 11:35 tomorrow morning.
