Dylan O’Keeffe has salvaged fifth overall in Round 4 of the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia at Queensland Raceway, on a weekend where he and his GWR team faced some setup challenges with the Dexion/RAM Motorsport Porsche Type 992 Cup car.
After qualifying fourth and eighth for the weekend’s first two races, O’Keeffe gained a spot on the opening lap of each race with some assertive driving, before coming home fifth in Race 3.
“When we rolled the car out of the truck on Friday, it wasn’t quite in the window – I was having trouble getting it to work the tyre over one lap, but the tyres were also getting hot over longer distances,” O’Keeffe said.
“We tuned the car throughout the weekend and by the time we got to Race 3, it was on the money, but by that stage I was too far down the order to challenge for the podium.”
While he relinquished his points lead, O’Keeffe still sits a strong second in the standings at the season half-way mark.
“I’m not panicking – this was my worst round of the season so far, and I was still in the top five, so it’s not a disaster by any means,” he said.
“Next up, we head to The Bend, a track where we’ve already tested this year and where we’re very comfortable with our base setup.
“We’ll reset, debrief thoroughly from the weekend and make sure we’re back at the front of the field at The Bend.”
Round 5 of Carrera Cup at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend will be held from 12- 14 September.
