Dylan O’Keeffe has earned a late call-up to compete in this weekend’s second round of the Australian IRC (Innovation Race Cars) Racing Series, as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series 2 Days of Thunder at Queensland Raceway.
O’Keeffe will drive one of the IRC SD (Super Development) cars, which race with reduced downforce and no driver aids compared to the IRC GT cars, aimed at non-professional drivers.
The reigning Porsche Carrera Cup Champion said the opportunity to race this weekend presented a good chance to notch up some seat time during the long break between Carrera Cup rounds.
“The first Carrera Cup round was in early March and we don’t race again until June, so when Danny Stutterd rang and asked if I’d be interested in having a drive, I naturally jumped at the opportunity,” O’Keeffe said.
“They look like really cool cars – V8 engines, a lot of horsepower, a little bit of aero and a sequential gearbox, so the racing should be a lot of fun.
“I’m not going into the weekend with any expectations in terms of results; I just want to have some fun and give the IRC crew some feedback about the car.”
The IRC round will consist of two sprint races and two 50-minute endurance races, with coverage on Fox Sports/Kayo and SBS.
