Garry Rogers Motorsport Dunlop Super2 Series rookie Dylan O’Keeffe is expecting his maiden races at this weekend’s Adelaide 500 to be the most challenging of his career.
O’Keeffe will be making his first start in the category after spending the previous three seasons in Carrera Cup, and knows the transition won’t be easy.
“There actually isn’t much of a speed variation between the Porsche and the Supercar, but the driving techniques are completely different; I know it will take time for me to adapt, especially when I’m up against some drivers who have years of experience in Supercars,” O’Keeffe said.
“Fortunately I feel like I’m in the best-possible environment to speed up my learning curve. Working full-time with the Garry Rogers Motorsport team has taught me so much about the behind-the-scenes aspects of a racing team, and given me a new appreciation for what goes into preparing for weekends like this one.”
With three 19-lap races on the program, and temperatures expected to be in the mid to high 30s across all four days, driver fitness levels are likely to prove a major factor this weekend.
“It’s going to be very hot, and at the Adelaide street circuit there’s not a lot of airflow; I’m tipping driver fatigue will be an issue,” O’Keeffe said.
“My personal trainers have been pushing me hard to ensure I’m in peak physical shape, but it’s still going to be tough for everyone.”
O’Keeffe paid tribute to his supporters and sponsors, who have aided his rapid career progression.
“I had my very first car racing experience less than five years ago, so to already be just one step away from the very top level of racing in Australia is awesome,” he said.
“I’m very lucky to be supported by a caring family, as well as a loyal group of sponsors.
“I’ve done everything I can to make sure I’m as ready as I can be for the weekend, now I just have to get out there and do my best.”
