O’Keeffe Predicting Opportunity in Mixed Gold Coast Weather

Wet weather is on the forecast for this weekend’s penultimate round of the Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, and reigning champion Dylan O’Keeffe is expecting plenty of thrills and spills.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a Carrera Cup race in fully wet conditions – it looked like it was going to happen at The Bend, but then the race was cancelled,” he said.

“With lots of drivers having not raced a Porsche in the wet, it will certainly create some challenges, especially on the Gold Coast circuit where there are so many slippery painted lines to catch you out, and concrete walls that are unforgiving if you get it wrong.”

While the forecast may look gloomy, O’Keeffe is upbeat about the prospect of racing in tricky conditions.

“I’ve always enjoyed driving in the rain, going all the way back to my karting days,” he said.

“Variable conditions always reward experience, intelligence and a bit of bravery, so I’m up for the challenge. The key thing will be making sure we head into the weekend with a good wet weather setup, especially making sure we get the tyre pressures right.”

The Carrera Cup action kicks off with a pair of practice sessions on Friday, followed by Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday, and Races 2 and 3 on Sunday.

All sessions from Practice 2 onwards while be shown live on FOX Sports/Kayo, while Races 1 and 3 will also be shown on Channel 7.
