O’Keeffe Focused on Season End After Gold Coast Disappointment

Reigning Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Champion Dylan O’Keeffe is looking forward to the Adelaide season finale after enduring a troubled penultimate round of the series at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 on the weekend.

It started on a promising note, O’Keeffe recording top five results in Friday’s practice sessions which were held in mixed conditions.

However, as has been the pattern throughout much of the season, O’Keeffe’s Dexion Porsche lacked one-lap pace in qualifying, which saw him lining up on the grid ninth for the first two races.

Race 1 was red-flagged and restarted due to a change in the weather conditions and O’Keeffe was running eighth when he was turned around on the last lap, falling to 18th.

Incidents during Race 2 saw two Safety Car interventions, limiting O’Keeffe’s opportunities to make up positions – he finished in ninth place.

Starting outside the top 10 in Race 3, O’Keeffe was caught out when another competitor changed lines in the braking zone at Turn 12; he cannoned into the rear of two other cars, puncturing his radiator and leaving him with no alternative but to pull into the pits and retire.

“The weekend started well, but it all went downhill from there,” O’Keeffe said.

“As has been the case for most of the year, I didn’t maximise qualifying but felt like I had a good race car; I was making up places in Race 1 so it was very disappointing to be taken out on the last lap.

“There weren’t many racing laps in Race 2 so I finished where I started and then Race 3 was a total disaster.

“It’s not a weekend I’ll look back upon fondly and it’s disappointing for my title defence to be over with a round to go, but I’ll be coming out firing in the last round at Adelaide to make sure we finish 2026 on a high and carry some good momentum into 2027,” O’Keeffe concluded.

The final Carrera Cup round will be held at the BP Adelaide Grand Final, 26-29 November.
