O’Keeffe Gutted With TCR Cancellation At Grand Prix

Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Dylan O’Keeffe said he’s gutted he didn’t get the chance to race at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, after the TCR Asia Pacific Cup races were cancelled this morning along with the remainder of the AGP program, due to the threat presented by the Coronavirus.

While he may not have been able to race, O’Keeffe at least had the chance to turn laps of the Albert Park circuit in his Renault Megane RS yesterday, qualifying in 10th position.

“I was really looking forward to racing this weekend, and it is so disappointing for the event to be cancelled altogether,” O’Keeffe said.

“Throughout practice and qualifying, I was learning more and more about the car, and adapting my driving technique to suit its characteristics. On a track like this one, with high-speed corners, there are some key differences compared to the Alfa I was in last year; yesterday ended up becoming basically a test session.

“The Renault is generally better as a race car than a qualifying car, so it’s a shame I wasn’t able to exploit its advantages in the races. But it only serves to make me more fired up for the first championship round. “In the end, public health and safety has to be a priority so as shattering as it is for the Grand Prix to be abandoned, I understand why it was done,” O’Keeffe concluded.
