Super2 racer Dylan O’Keeffe has announced a one-off reappearance in Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia, at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.
O’Keeffe will race the Porsche Centre Brighton/Porsche Centre Doncaster entry, prepared by Ashley Seward Motorsport – the team he drove for from 2015 to 2018 in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and Carrera Cup.
The 21-year-old impressed in his Super2 Series debut with Garry Rogers Motorsport at the Adelaide 500, where he finished as the highest-placed rookie driver in eighth outright.
While the Supercar campaign is his focus for the 2019 season, O’Keeffe says he’s looking forward to reuniting with the familiar faces at ASM and returning to his old stomping ground.
“It’s a big break between Super2 rounds – our next event isn’t until May – so this proved a good chance for me to keep myself race fit with some valuable seat time,” O’Keeffe said.
Last year, O’Keeffe was one of the main title protagonists in Carrera Cup, achieving race and round victories and finishing third in the standings. However, he says the Albert Park circuit is a place where he has unfinished business.
“I was never able to finish on the podium at the Grand Prix; last year, I had the speed but I got caught in an incident early in the weekend, and had to play catch-up,” he said.
“An AGP podium is a box I really want to tick; it’s a prestigious event, and it’s a thrill competing in front of a big, international audience.
“I haven’t done any testing in the car before this weekend, but I’m sure it won’t take me too long to settle back into the groove.
“I’m excited to be back with the Ash Seward Motorsport team, and I’m really looking forward to racing alongside Cooper Murray – he’s in my car from last year, and he did a terrific job in the opening round at Adelaide.”
The weekend consists of four races, with the Friday, Saturday and Sunday races to be shown live on Channel 10 and FOX Sports.
